Preparing For Senior Portraits

What to Wear: Keep it Simple

  • Avoid logos, words and graphic t-shirts.

  • Solid colors are highly recommended.

  • For outdoor sessions be practical with shoes.

  • Bring one or two extra outfits to increase variety and have back-up.

  • You can read more in my full What-To-Wear-Guide here.

What the Photo Session Is Like

Something I love about portrait photography is that even though my workflow of each senior portrait is pretty much the same I capture each individual’s unique personality. Something that I am often told by parents is how amazing it was I was able to work with their shy senior and make them feel comfortable in front of the camera.

More often than not this will be the first time a student is having their photo taken professionally outside of school or family photos. So coming in they don’t really know what to expect, and when they realize how easy it is and that it’s actually kind of fun they’ll be surprised how quickly the times goes.

I prompt seniors into a variety of simple poses and give the opportunity for wardrobe changes, to in the end, offer more variety in final images.

Sessions take up to an hour long as I take my time with my camera, but again the time will fly by!

Also, I recommend seniors are accompanied by a parent or trusted friend. It’s just nice to have someone familiar there during the session to hold items and assist with wardrobe changes. Not a requirement by any means but something to think about.

After the Session

While my guarantee is a 30-day turnaround I have been sending clients their photo galleries online within one week. Probably because I just get so excited about the photos and I love the editing process! It’s a part of the artistic craft that I’m obsessed with.

My online galleries are shareable and a perfect way to allow grandparents, aunties & uncles, friends to see and enjoy the photos too.

Once the online gallery is sent, I ask clients to identify which photo they want as their included 8x10 print, as well as favoriting or hearting their top ten photos they want as digital copies. I also design a softcover photobook as well, which is included in the session, which is directly mailed home with the 8x10 print.

If ten digital copies just isn’t enough the entire gallery may be unlocked for an additional $500 fee.

Psst - Coming soon! Archival Albums 🙌
