What You Need to Know About Your Proposal or Engagement Session

Celebrating Fiancé Status

How to Get Started

Select a date on my website here. If you don't see something in my schedule that works for you please contact me with a special request at hello@evelynmaephoto.com.

Location: My go-to outdoor location for couples is currently at Birch Bay State Park. For in-studio sessions I use a space called Vine Creative Space NW located in Lynden. When you book, tell me if you are looking for a studio or an on-location shoot.

Preparing For the Session

What to Wear: Keep it Simple

  • Avoid distracting logos or images on shirts.

  • Solid colors are best, especially when you are paired up.

  • Patterns and stripes can work as long as one person is wearing a solid color.

  • Wear practical shoes for the location.

  • Wear an outer layer to easily add variety to your outfits.

  • You can read more in my full What-To-Wear-Guide here.

What the Photo Session Is Like

This will be different depending on if the session is a surprise - and a proposal is taking place - or if you are already engaged and are taking photos together to celebrate after the fact.

If you are proposing, I'll make a plan with you to determine if I need to hide in plain sight and come up with a signal so I can be ready. Or maybe if you think your partner will be suspicious a photographer is around, I can hide my camera until it is go time.

If this is the first time you and your partner are having photos done together professionally, just know that it is a very fun experience.

The best way I capture couples in love, is by prompting them to just be themselves. I'll ask couples to hold hands, hug and kiss. How couples do this is up to them.

Sessions may take up to an hour long but I have been able to capture all the shots I aim for in as little as half an hour.

After the Session

You can expect to receive a link in your email inviting you to view your photos in about one week, which is my current turn around at the time of writing this.

My online galleries are shareable and a perfect way to allow parents, aunties & uncles, friends to see and enjoy the photos too.

Once the online gallery is sent, I ask clients to identify which photo they want as their included 8x10 print, as well as favoriting or hearting their top ten photos they wan to have downloaded. I also design a softcover photobook as well, which is included, and mail it to you along with the single print photo.

If ten digital copies just isn’t enough the entire gallery may be unlocked for an additional $500 fee.

Psst - Archival Albums Coming soon!
