Capturing Your Senior Year: A Personal Touch to Your Senior Photos

As I watch the leaves change and feel the crisp autumn air, I'm reminded that it's time for one of my favorite photography opportunities: high school senior portraits. October is usually the last month before senior photos are due to submit to yearbook publications which aligns with a good time for capturing these milestone moments, blending the vibrant fall colors with the bright futures of graduating seniors.

Why Fall for Senior Portraits

  • The beautiful fall foliage provides a stunning natural backdrop. Fall leaves + Bokeh = dreamy.

  • Comfortable temperatures make outdoor shoots enjoyable and can make it easier to wear versatile outfits.

  • It's early enough in the school year to avoid the stress of final exams and college application deadlines.

  • Meeting the yearbook deadline: often times yearbook publications require senior photo submission by Halloween or the first week in November.

My Tips for Preparing for Your Senior Photoshoot

  1. Choose outfits that reflect your personality and style. When in doubt, comfort and simplicity are winning choices.

  2. Get plenty of rest the night before to look and feel your best.

  3. Come ready to have fun and be yourself!

What to Expect During Our Senior Portrait Session

I intentionally set out to make my senior portrait sessions flexible and unforced. We'll spend time chatting between shots, and capturing images that reflect who you are at this exciting time in your life. Poses are usually general prompts such as face this way and put your hands in your pockets. Poses that anyone can do - no modeling experience necessary.

Beautiful Locations for Your Senior Portraits

I have a curated list of approved locations that offer stunning backdrops for your senior portraits. Some of my favorites include:

  • Hovander Homestead Park - perfect for rustic, natural settings.

  • Birch Bay State Park - ideal for beachside shots with beautiful water views.

  • Fairhaven Park - great for a mix of natural evergreen and grassy fields.

  • Teddy Bear Cove, Bellingham

The Importance of Printing Your Photographs

In this digital age, I can't stress enough the importance of printing your photographs. While digital files are convenient, there's something truly special about holding a physical print in your hands:

  • Tangible memories: Printed photos allow you to relive your senior year whenever you want, without needing a device

  • Family heirlooms: Physical prints can be passed down through generations, becoming cherished family treasures

  • Decorative art: Your senior portraits can become beautiful wall art in your home or dorm room

  • Emotional connection: Studies have shown that people form stronger emotional connections with physical photographs

That's why I offer a range of high-quality print options for your senior portraits. From my signature heirloom albums to traditional prints small and large, we'll work together to create lasting mementos of this special time in your life.
