What to Wear to Your Spring Photo Session - Bellingham, Wash.
Spring is a beautiful time to watch flowers bloom and fresh spring leaves emerge.
You are so excited for Winter to be over and looking forward to having some photos done soon for Spring time. Here are my tips on what to wear.
#1 Stick with Solid Colors Paired with Floral Details
If you’ve read any of my older what-to-wear posts you’ll know that I always lead with the recommendation to wear a solid color over a print.
That’s because prints can sometimes distract from the face while a solid color doesn’t draw attention away from the eyes as much.
Solid colors and particularly neutral colors will provide your photos with a timeless look.
Floral prints come out every Spring season and are fun and colorful. If you have a love for the bold and colorful things in life then choosing something with a print will help you stay true to your personality.
When it comes to color, pastels will make it all the more clear your photos are a Spring time memory. If you plan on shopping stores often times come out with new seasonal items with similar colors that run through each department so it may be easy to find pastel colors that pair well with each other.
Layering with khaki, tan or light wash jeans will complete the Sprint time look.
#2 Prepare for Rain and Mud
Before you dive in on number two here, you may also be interested in my previous post, “What happens if it rains?”
In this post let’s cover preparing for wet conditions on an outdoor Spring session.
It is very much possible for a light drizzle to start mid-session. I’ve never had a case where a heavy down pour interrupts my work but I have had some rain drops visit me on a shoot.
To prepare for that make sure to have an outer layer or jacket so that if any rain drops start to make a noticeable impact on your clothing, we can pivot to another wardrobe option.
I’ve also been out and about on a clear sunny day but the location has some muddy or soggy terrain to traverse.
For this reason I advise clients to bring water-proof or water-resistant footwear that offers some traction in addition to any cute Spring sandals or heels.
Another idea I like to remind clients of is that you can by all means go with the flow and dress in classic rainy day gear. Rain boots, rain coat and beanie or baseball hat.
If any of these preparation details don’t appeal to you, this may be your sign that you’re better suited for a Summer or in-studio photo session. And that’s okay!
It’s my job to help you know what to expect so I hope this helps.
#3 Don’t Forget to do a Mirror Check
Definitely pick out what you’ll wear at least the very minimum a day in advance and do a mirror check to see how your outfit comes together. This means everything, your jacket your shoes or boots and any accessories.
Take the time to make sure you like how you look with and without your jacket too.
If your session is with your partner or it’s a family session you may want to take the time to get everyone dressed and look in the mirror together to see how it all comes together.
The sooner you can do this the better, because if you aren’t in love with something you can give yourself time to have something delivered or to go shopping.
A Few Details Go A Long Way
