Golden Hour Photo Sessions

The Hour Before Sunset

The hour before the sun sets and the half hour after it drops below the horizon is a magical time to have a portrait photo session. The light offers the chance to capture beautifully backlit portraits, beautiful bokeh details followed by moody and romantic twilight ambiance. On a perfectly clear day it also prevents harsh shadows under the eyes and face.

That is why most of my booking calendar options take place in the evening-- and the last session of the day is scheduled during golden hour.

This same alluring light of course is the same during the sunrise, and here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest makes for amazing mountainscapes right when the sun first touches the land. I'm not an early riser, especially with summer sunrises being as early as 5:00 am!  With the right planning however, it is worth an early alarm clock wakeup.

Here are just a few portrait photos from my golden hour portrait sessions.
